To understand yourself is to stand under yourself.
Halley Wolowiec is a licensed psychotherapist in New York City. She received double graduate degrees from Columbia University; and has advanced clinical training from the American Institute for Psychoanalysis in NYC. Coupled with a Bachelor's degree from Ohio University's Scripps School of Journalism, Halley served as the International Manuscript Editor for "The American Journal of Psychoanalysis."
When we understand ourselves, we can ‘stand under’ ourselves. We know so much about ourselves; yet there is so much for us, still, to understand. The more we know, of course, the more we can advocate; and make the most informed decisions for ourselves. Socialization, traumas, life events, and judgments can impact our outlook on life. They can influence how we see ourselves, and how we imagine the world sees us. As a result, we can build defense mechanisms to protect ourselves; and compensate to over-correct. Over time, these protective devices, however, wear down. And that’s actually a good thing; because we don’t want to live life compensating; carrying around unresolved conflicts, and inaccurate perspectives about ourselves and the world. As Karen Horney said, we learned to think this way about ourselves; we can unlearn it. We have the opportunity as adults to change our learned perspectives, and to resolve our inner conflicts; and develop an accurate understanding of ourselves (and the world). When we do that, we can make the most informed decisions for ourselves, and live our most authentic life.
Halley works with adults seeking relief from anxiety; depression; low self-esteem; relationship and family issues; trauma; unresolved conflicts; and life stressors (such as death of a loved one; divorce; job loss; career change). She works with couples wanting to find solutions to problems in otherwise satisfying relationships. And she works with young adults and college students navigating NYC for the first time away from family and friends.
From an organizational perspective, Halley can conduct psychological evaluations for legal, employment, and forensic investigations; and can assist companies with organizational development, using psychological and psychoanalytical approaches to increase personal and group morale, productivity, and organizational cohesion.
Out-of-network reimbursement options are available. Fees are discussed during initial consultation.
